The very first installment of our new monthly segment called No Filter, where I sit down with my friend and fellow business owner Kelly Northlee of Fondy Famous and Not Your Average Marketing.

This week’s episode of The Wide Open Podcast is a little different – and in the best possible way. It originally aired live on Facebook as the very first installment of our new monthly segment called No Filter, where I sit down with my friend and fellow business owner Kelly Northlee of Fondy Famous and Not Your Average Marketing.
No script. No curated talking points. Just an honest conversation between two business friends showing up exactly as we are.
We each brought three things to the table:
And then we just… talked. For real. Out loud. With no filter.
➡️ Struggling with: Increasing visibility for the coaching side of my business.
My current clients know me. Podcast listeners know me. But finding new ways to increase my visibility as a coach has been tough lately. (Ironically, within an hour of going live, someone reached out with an opportunity to help me with this. Manifestation, anyone?)
➡️ What Kelly’s doing well: Keeping all the balls in the air with grace.
Kelly is juggling a marketing agency, a thriving local podcast, and so many creative collaborations in Fond du Lac and the surrounding areas. And it’s not just the projects. She’s holding space for a lot of people, and doing so beautifully, even through some recent challenges.
➡️ Grateful for: My business coach – who also happens to be my brother.
He’s a behavioral scientist with a background in learning and training, and he’s been helping me level up how I teach business owners the skills they need. Having someone in my corner who understands how people learn has made a huge impact.
➡️ Struggling with: Securing sponsors to complete her podcast studio by May 2.
She’s exploring new ways to pitch, new offerings, and fresh approaches to get across the finish line. We talked about timelines, mindset shifts, and reframes that might help her think about the process in a more empowering way.
➡️ What I’m doing well (her words, not mine!): Showing up consistently. On social media. In person.
Even when I’m sick, in a hard season, or feeling stretched, I keep showing up, giving what I can, and staying visible. (Which I really appreciated hearing, especially after sharing how visibility feels hard right now.)
➡️ Grateful for: Local business owners who say yes to her crazy ideas.
Kelly thrives in community and creativity, and she’s endlessly thankful for the people who trust her enough to take a wild idea and turn it into something real – sometimes within days.
This conversation was real, raw, and refreshingly unscripted. That’s the whole point of No Filter: creating space for honest, supportive conversations that remind us we’re not alone in the highs or the lows of business.
We’re doing this every month, so we’d love to hear from YOU:
Drop a comment, shoot us a message, or share this episode with a business friend who needs to hear it.
Listen in now, and don’t forget: real business growth happens when we’re brave enough to show up without a filter.
